Artist-in-residence at PoSt Projects, a project space in New Cross, London
Mathilda will use this one-month residency to develop work that is subtly inspired by the original use of the project-space as the 'Sergeant's Locker Room'. Mathilda will consider the implications of a society obsessed with 'clean' by looking at the architectural infrastructure that is keeping the city hygienic.

Mathilda Fowler's work demonstrates a continued interest in the correlation between the urban landscape and social behaviour. Often site-specific, her practice concentrates on interventions within public space, thereby delicately revealing the ideologies that are responsible for shaping our built environment. Her work questions the processes that organise urban life and space, often alluding to the social activism associated with the 1960s and early 1970s.
Mathilda Fowler graduated in 2008 with a BA in Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art. Since 2007 Mathilda has worked extensively with AIR (Archway Investigations and Responses) in North London, creating site-specific installations and taking part in events. In January 2009 Mathilda took part in TRANSIT, a collaborative project and exhibition in Kolkata, India.
